New Toy

I got myself on of those shiny Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. Naturally, it comes with a blogging client. Guess on what machine this post was written on.

Great Show

Went to see Misery Index playing in Munich last night. For a pleasant surprise, one of the supporting bands was Man Must Die from Glasgow. I actually had them seen play four years ago in The Subway in Edinburgh. They put on a great show, as well.

Anyhow, Misery Index left me speechless. They started playing, one gigantic, dirty, phat wave of angry crawled out of the speakers and swept towards the crowd. I could not decide whether to simply stand there speechless, or watch the drummer perform miracles with his drumsticks, or simply mosh my brain away.

A great night out, despite suffering from lack of sleep today.

Visit in Auld Reekie

Time for a re-delurk. I know, shame on me, haven't blogged for months. Quick summary's in order: My move back to Germany went fine. Job's ok, I'm well.

Anyhow, to get to the point, I will be visiting Edinburgh in order to attend the wedding of my former workmate Derek. Searching for accommodation was a wee bit of a hassle, but random coincidence helped me. Trying to google for the Thistle Hotel in Leith in order to check the rates I stumbled upon "The Original Edinburgh Thistle Hotel", a small B&B in Manor Place. With a rate for 35 quid per night for a single room, that's much preferred to staying in a proper hotel, where rates can easily be five times as much with the rooms not being much better anyways. Plus, it's closer to the airport and The Kilt Hire Co. where I will probably get my Prince Charlie outfit for the occasion ;-)

I wouldn't mind to get together with old friends and workmates, enjoy a pint or two of that Callie Eighty, reminisce about the glorious past and so on. If you're interested just drop a comment in this blog or IM or email me. My UK mobile number won't be available until arrival in Edinburgh, which will be on Thursday the 8th of November (staying until Monday). Alternatively, a visit at one of the curry houses might be a splendid idea, as well. I haven't found a good Indian Restaurant in Ingolstadt yet, and I really miss T3h Curry.

The lust for blood

I've been invited to DJ at Edgar's next Bloodlust party. I will do one or two stints of 30 minutes each. Besides the usual Death Metal/Grindcore fuvg I've also compiled a set of German metal bands of various genres. Perhaps I will be able to chop in a song or two in order to provide some "cultural exchange" *ggg*

The party will take place on Jan 21st at the Teviot Union Terrace Bar.

Your Social Dysfunction:
Normal

Being average in terms of how social you are, as well as the amount of self-esteem you have, you're pretty much normal. Good on you.

Cool new music recommendation service

http://www.pandora.com/

Seems to work quite nicely. Even my rather extreme taste of music is well dealt with. It is not exactly the same as last.fm but imho better for discovering new things.

They claim they don't recommend by name but by the inherent elements found in particular songs, using genetic algorithms. Well, we'll see *ggg*

Here's why MacOS just don't cut it anymore

According to this article in The Independent, Apple is a company that "makes the iPod and a range of computers". Apple is not famous for its famous computers no more. No, now it is famous for their range of portable music players. And then they are switching to Intel cpus, too. If I were a Mac user I would jump ship and install GNU/Linux or BSD asap.

Fits somehow, doesn't it?

WAY More Scientific

You have:
92% SCIENTIFIC INTUITION and
55% EMOTIONAL INTUITION
The graph on the right represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored about average on emotional intuition and super high on scientific intuition.Keep
in mind that very few people score high on both! In effect, you can
compare your two intuition scores with each other to learn what kind of
intuition you're best at. Your scientific intuition is stronger than
your emotional intuition.

Your Emotional Intuition
score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their
unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates
social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you're good
at Quake.

Your Scientific Intuition
score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well
you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with
high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the
sciences.

Try my other test!
The 3 Variable Funny Test
It rules.

Arg

It seems the powers that be have decided to pull the plug on the Rio brand of portable media players. What a pity. I own a Rio Karma myself and it actually is quite a cool player thing, supporting the audio formats like so-much-better-than mp3 Ogg Vorbis and even lossless FLAC.

This doesn't really come as a surprise, though. There haven't been new firmware releases for a really long time. It seems The digitalnetworks Rio became victim of a another we-want-to-buy-you-out-but-we-don't-know-what-to-do-with-you company.

But alas, there is still hope, the CPU of the Karma is almost the same as in an IPod, and there is a Linux port for that gizmo already. Maybe some good heart starts porting Linux to the Rio Karma....
